When joining affiliate programs there are many decisions you have to make. Unfortunately, few people query what kind of tracking software the program uses. To overlook this can prove costly, and means you may never be credited with 5% - 10% of your affiliate sales.

A good affiliate program will use quality affiliate tracking software that is reliable and tracks all of your sales. You must make sure that they not only track online sales, but also sales by phone, fax and mail order. Many companies only track online, and this means you will lose between 5% - 10% of your sales.

Also, make sure that the affiliate program uses ‘cookie tracking’ software to ensure that you will be credited for sales from people who don’t buy the first time they visit your website, but come back and buy at a later date.

Many affiliate programs use software that only tracks about 80% of your sales. It has to be said that many of the popular affiliate companies are guilty of this. So beware big names! Some companies use tracking software that only pays if the customer visits your link and buys straight away. If the visitor returns to your site an hour later… a day later… week later… and buys, you will not be credited for the sale. Good ‘cookie tracking’ software ensures that this never happens.

So, before you join any affiliate scheme make sure to ask about the kind of tracking software they use. It could save you a small fortune in the long term.

In the UK I am witnessing a distinct shift in peoples attitude towards personal pension planning, the traditional pension plan investing in a fund, has become viewed with suspicion by many of my clients. As many affiliate programs as there are, there are also that many commission structures. While we can’t possibly go through all the different kinds, we are going to cover some of the more common ones. Hopefully, this will give you a decent idea of how commission structures work and which one is best for you.

The simplest commission structure for an affiliate program is the single level or 1-tier structure. This is where you get paid a certain percentage of the sign up fee for that program or product. Most single level structures pay around 50%. Some a little more, some a little less. But for the most part, you’re looking at a $10 profit on a $20 sale. The good thing about single level commission structures is that you do get a decent chunk of the sale price. The bad thing about it is you have to do all the work. You get no help from any of the people you sell to. Their efforts are pretty much worthless to you. So if you’re not a good sales person, a single level commission structure is one that you probably want to stay away from as you need to make too many sales to make a decent profit.

The next type of commission structure is the multi level. This can be 2-tier all the way to infinity. This is where commission structures start to get very complex and careful examination of each one is needed in order to decide if a particular one is good for you.

For the most part, multi level commission structures are great for people who feel that they can make just enough sales to bring in others who will do a good portion of the work for them. Unfortunately, the hardest part of this is actually finding these people. Most Internet marketers are very poor at recruiting others. In other words, out of every 10 people you make a sale to, you’re lucky if you find 1 who does anything at all.

With a multi level commission structure, the 50% commission, or whatever it may be, is divided up between the many levels. For example, with a program that goes down 3 levels deep, the commission structure may look something like this.

Level 1 - 30% Level 2 - 15% Level 3 - 10%

In this structure, the total payout is 55%, which is actually pretty good. So if the sale price is $20, you would make $6 for every personal sale that you make. But, for every sale that your direct sales makes you would receive an additional $3. And then finally, for every sale that their sales makes, you would receive $2. And this is a relatively simple structure. Some programs will have what they call leadership bonuses. In other words, you only get paid on your lower level sales if you get at least 1 sale for the month. If not, all those commissions go up to your next level.

Yes, it can get very complicated and we’ve just scratched the surface. In a future article we’ll go over advanced commission structures.

When putting in a truck wash you need to consider many things such as truck traffic counts, competition, labor availability, water supply and costs to put up a building, buy equipment and reclaim systems to treat the water. In Northwest TX there is significant truck traffic traveling all the back roads on major highways and on the main interstates.

Recently, I was asked by a gentleman; I live in a small west Texas town of Tulia, TX. We are located on I27 half way between Amarillo and Lubbock and he wished to know if this made sense for a truck wash. He noted that a local truck stop pumped some 30,000 gallons per day. Not a lot compared to interstate main routes in TX like I-20, I-10 or I-40 but still a decent amount of fuel. Below are some additional thoughts on this subject;

After reviewing the information you have discussed and in that particular market I would recommend a low-cost building with specific hours of operation; minimal cost building, skid pressure washer units (2) and simplified reclaim filtration. And I have concerns with labor supply there. Also if I were you I would consider a Mobile Wash Unit to clean truck fleets in both Lubbock and Amarillo, as well on off hours, due to the out of the way location.

Keep your truck wash unit to a minimum in cost and I also need a clarification on water supply there and drought issues too. Can you tell me if there is labor available other than illegal aliens and what the drought situation is too? You see there are many factors to consider when operating a truck wash and they must all be taken into consideration you see? Think on this in 2006.
